War hero poet remembered

By Farnham Herald in Local People

THE centenary of the death of East Hampshire poet Edward Thomas, who was killed in France on April 9, 1917, was marked at the stone set up to his memory on Shoulder of Mutton Hill, near Steep, on Sunday.

About 30 people turned out to hear readings of his poems under a cloudless sky.

The event was organised as part of the South Downs Poetry Festival, which is being held across the South Downs National Park throughout the spring and summer.
