Haslemere hit seven as they track the leaders

By Farnham Herald in Hockey

AFTER a slow start, Haslemere worked up a head of steam and put seven goals past winless Southampton University.

The students are bottom of Hampshire Division One, but they began well enough in this match and Haslemere were grateful for some strong defending from Bex Mitchell, Kate Hutchings, Mel Knight, Abbie Walhen and keeper Eleanor Abrahams.

Haslemere found their feet again when Heidi Wells scored the opening goal. Sarah Elworthy and Hannah Enticknap then supplied some excellent through-passes and Alex Hardy made it 2-0 after Donna Reed had selflessly played the ball into her path.

The forwards, Celia Hall, Hardy and Alice Toynton, managed to sort the press out, enabling inners Elworthy, Reed, Wells and Enticknap, to turn the ball over.

Enticknap added the third goal before half-time.

The visitors were much better in the second half and goals came thick and fast from Toynton, Hardy and Wells.

The passing was sharper and no less than ten short corners resulted, giving Haslemere plenty of practice for their routine.

Hutchings scored the seventh goal to complete a good day for Haslemere who lie three points behind leaders and local rivals, Aldershot & Farnham.
